Speak out on dog foul rules
● PUBLIC consultation has begun over proposals to tackle dog poo in Halton.
Halton Borough Council is canvassing for residents’ views on the plans to be able to impose Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) to boost its powers to promote responsible ownership.
Anyone wishing to comment should fill in the survey at www.halton. gov.uk/dogcontrol or fill in paper copies, available at Direct Link shops.
The consultation runs from now to September 28.
Local authorities have the power to create a PSPO where activities are taking place that can have a detrimental effect on neighbourhood quality of life.
The controls that are being proposed include: ● Dogs excluded from defined areas of Halton ● Dogs required to be on a lead in defined areas ● Dog walkers required to carry bags to clean up after their dog has fouled ● A restriction on the number of dogs that an individual can walk at any one time
Breach of a PSPO is a criminal offence which can mean being issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100.
The outcome of the consultation will be considered by Halton’s Executive Board in the Autumn.
