Serial thief jailed for store spree while under orders

A SERIAL thief has been sentenced to 13 weeks behind bars, three suspended, following a string of petty thefts across Widnes and Runcorn and failures to comply with court orders.

Gareth John Hutton, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at North Cheshire Magistrate­s’ Court.

Hutton, 37, was under the requiremen­ts of a community order when he committed the offences.

He stole meat worth £56 from Co-op in Runcorn on Sunday, June 3, and alcohol worth £4.85 and food valuing £18.60 from Spar in Widnes on Monday, June 11.

Finally on Thursday, June 21, he stole meat and coffee worth £39.31 from Aldi in Widnes. Hutton was sentenced to a total of eight weeks in prison having pleaded guilty to all the counts of theft.

He received a further two weeks for committing the offences whilst under a period of supervisio­n following release from prison.

Hutton was given three more weeks in prison, suspended for six months, for reoffendin­g while under a suspended sentence.

In addition, he was also ordered to pay compensati­on for the items he stole. ● Aldi in Widnes was one location where Hutton struck
