I’m sorry for how I behaved, says alcoholic in letter to cops

-

A RECOVERING alcoholic has written an inspiring letter to police in Runcorn to say sorry for their actions.

In the letter, which has been shared on Facebook by Runcorn police, the individual apologises for their “irresponsible behaviour”.

Posting it on Facebook the police wrote: “Lovely letter received this morning – pleased to hear that this individual is improving in their life! #hereforcommunities

The full letter reads: “Dear police officer,

“I am a recovering alcoholic and over the years my drinking has affected the way I have acted towards and treated people.

“I’ve now fully admitted and accepted my condition from going to meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.

“Now that I’m in AA and trying to recover, I’m working my way through the 12 steps recovery programme.

“Part of this programme is that, with some help, I have tried to identify those people and organisations in my past that I have hurt by my selfish, dishonest and irresponsible behaviour.

“Not only am I sorry that my behaviour may have hurt people in the police, I was also wrong.

“The police of course are one of the organisations and I just wanted to let you know that nothing the police did was in anyway responsible for the way I acted towards them.

“My behaviour and the way I acted was entirely my responsibility.”

The inspiring letter was met with admiration from members of the public who commented to wish the anonymous person a ‘speedy recovery’.

One wrote: “Lovely to see, well done whoever you are” and another commented: “What a brave brave public admission.”
