Bring your boots

-

FANS from a range of Rugby League Clubs have pledged their support to the Vikings’ ‘ Bring Your Boots’ campaign including Swinton Lions fan, John Spellman.

Widnes Vikings, along with XBlades, have launched a unique campaign to support the grassroots game in the communities of Papua New Guinea – a country that has embraced the Vikings, with the support of the Stanley Gene Foundation and Maltacourt.

John, more affectionately known as ‘Spelly’, visited Halton Stadium recently to offer his support and donate some rugby boots to send to Papua New Guinea and help with the appeal.

The boots he pledged to the campaign were the playing ones of former Swinton Lions player, Jack Murphy.

Jack had worn these during the Lions’ clash against Toulouse last season, and he initially donated these to Macca Heaton at the end of the season.

However, after seeing the Bring Your Boots campaign online, John says that they wanted to help in any way that they could.

“It’s a fantastic thing to do, and I wanted to get involved as soon as I could,” he said.

“Papua New Guinea have built a love affair with this club, so I’m happy that I can help out by donating these boots.” ●

Anyone looking to support the Bring Your Boots initiative can donate their boots at the special collection point at the Vikings Superstore, located within Tesco Extra, Widnes.
