Stadium’s Jackson is the hero

-

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the latter stages of the Tommy Magee Cup (Top Half) took place.

In the first semi-Final, Halton Stadium took on the Wellington. The Stadium claimed the first two games through Alan Magee and Joe Kelly. The Wellington recovered a point via John Barber. However, the Stadium were still on a roll as a further three wins from Alan Magee & John Bowles, Eddie Dootson & Kevin Garcia and Joe Price & Tony Jackson ensured their victory.

The Wellington’s Karl Whitfield took the next game, whilst the Stadium’s Kenny Murphy and Tony Jackson won the last two contests.

In the second semiFinal, Widnes Bowling Club faced Goldmine, with the Bowler conceding the first two games to Karl Windisch and Mike Callaghan. The Bowler recovered a point via Mike Smith, only to see the Goldmine’s opening pair, Sean Bell & Terry Roach take the next one. The Bowler narrowed the gap via Tex Bowles & Alex McGill, but again, the Goldmine struck back, this time through Karl Windisch & Chris Hough.

Back in the singles, the Bowler won the next game through Joe Batty to keep their chance alive, but with Sean Bell taking the penultimate game the match was taken by the Goldmine.

In what was merely a consolation, Dave Pickles took the final game for the Bowler.

In the final, Halton Stadium took on the Goldmine, and started well as Alan Magee won the opener. But then came three in a row from the Goldmine’s Karl Windisch, Mike Callaghan and opening pair, James Holden & Mike Callaghan.

The Stadium hit back to level with two wins from John Bowles & Alan Magee and Joe Kelly & John Kilkenny.

With the final three singles left to play Terry Roach (18 darts and 180) took the Goldmine ahead, but not for long as Kevin Garcia (19 darts) made it 4-4.

All rested on the final game of darts, and it was Tony Jackson who stood firm to win it to seal the match for Halton Stadium and ensure his team lifted the Tommy Magee Top Half trophy.
