A SERIES of fires that are believed to have been started deliberately are under investigation by police, with emergency services appealing for information about the incidents.

The most recent blaze took place early on the morning of Tuesday, July 17, when an outbuilding on Deepdale, Widnes, was set alight.

Two fire crews spent around one hour tackling the blaze amid fears it would spread to the house.

A fire service spokesman said: “Shortly before 5am firefighters were called to reports of a fire at an address on Deepdale in Widnes.

“Crews discovered an outbuilding at the rear of the property was well alight, and there was risk that the fire may spread to the house.”

“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML126270.

Following another deliberate fire was started at Gleadmere in the early hours of Thursday, July 12, Widnes police tweeted a picture of the blaze.

The force’s Twitter account said: “Yet another deliberate ignition fire overnight, this one near to Arley Woods.

“Whoever is starting these fires need to consider the potential consequences of their actions.

“This fire was only a short distance from a number of houses full of families.”

A car fire was also deliberately started on Dunsford on the same evening.

Police are also seeking information after a deliberate grass fire on Green Oaks Way, Widnes, on the evening of Sunday, July 8.

Firefighters were also called to reports of a fire at in an unoccupied home on Grizedale on Friday, July 6, which is suspected to have been started deliberately.

AYOUNG mum accidentally killed herself at home in Runcorn after a tragic series of misunderstandings when her boyfriend was out with friends watching a rapper, an inquest heard.

The father of Agnieszka Ewa Giza, 23, of Granary Mill, Preston-on-theHill, told the inquest she had been a ‘social, happy girl who enjoyed life’.

She was found dead on February 24 by an acquaintance with her fingers clinging to the inside of a ligature, in the bathroom with a her two-year-old infant daughter nearby.

Cheshire police detectives referred the case because of concerns over the scene including the position of the deceased’s hands and because the tips of her toes were touching the floor.

Sergeant David Wood, then a detective constable with Runcorn police, said it appeared that she could have stood flat-footed had she wished to do so.

DI Tomlinson ruled out foul play because Miss Giza, a beautician by trade, had immaculately-presented and undamaged manicured nails, make-up and hair, with no wounds or bruising to indicate a struggle.

In addition, CCTV examinations confirmed that her partner Marek Goralczyk had been at a nightclub with friends during the previous evening as he had stated, before he had stayed out at a friend’s to be awoken in the morning and receive the devastating news that his girlfriend had been found dead.

Miss Giza’s phone revealed that she had been ‘annoyed’ that her boyfriend had gone out with his friends after he had initially said he would go with her, only to retract the offer when his friends said it was a lads-only outing.

She had then become suspicious that he might have been trying to rekindle a past relationship.

The inquest heard that she continued to send WhatsApp messages late into the night including an ‘ultimatum’ telling him to return home but that Mr Goralczyk’s phone battery had died and he did not receive the later messages.

Police confirmed that he did not receive it.

Miss Giza’s body was found after two workmen from Domlets lettings agents attended the couple’s home at 8.05am on Saturday, February 24, on a pre-booked appointment to fix patio doors which would not lock properly. ●
