TWO of Halton’s favourite events will be merging into one event for the first annual combined RECD Family Fun Day And Music Festival.

The day-long extravaganza takes place in Widnes this Saturday, July 21, at The Hammer And Pincers, and is a merger of Halton Rocks and RECD All Day.

The family fun day begins at 12 noon, leading into a sponsored walk to the music festival at St Basil’s club at 6pm.

Simon Owens, who ran the Halton Rocks event, said: “Halton Rocks has been running for seven years and RECD All Day for much longer.

“Since both events promote a family-friendly ethos and both offer up their profits to charity, the organisers of the two events decided that it made sense to merge in an ambitious drive to make the entertainment bigger, better and wider in scope.’’

He said: “This year, the fun kicks off at The Hammer And Pincers pub in Hough Green with an afternoon Family Fun Day.

“As well as the opportunity to see great local live performers such as Jenny Colquitt, Gareth Heesom, Catherine Hardman, ● Sarah Whitfield and The Naughty Corner, attendees will enjoy a wide-ranging variety of family focussed entertainments.

“Amongst the many delights on offer will be characters from Star Wars, bouncy castles, barbecue food, stars of the Widnes Vikings, characters from The Brindley’s Beauty And The Beast, ice cream, classic cars, book stalls, cake stalls and much, much more.

Simon added: ‘‘As the Family Fun Day concludes at around 5pm, there will be a sponsored ● walk from The Hammer to St Basil’s club which will be timed nicely so that walkers arrive for the start of the RECD annual music festival.

“Amongst the performers appearing at RECD this year will be Take Phat, The Riders, Doyler, Isaac Holian, The Lemorines, Sarah Whitfield and Greg Oldfield.”

All of the proceeds from the combined events will be shared between Claire House and the Heswall Disabled Children’s Holiday Fund.

Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life.

By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support, they help families to smile again when life could not get any tougher.

The Heswall Disabled Children’s Holiday Fund provides free holidays to disabled children aged nine-15 in the North West of England, catering for up to 30 children per year.

Typical activities that the children get to enjoy have, in the past, included such treats as evening entertainment and day trips to Blackpool, Chester Zoo, Southport, theme parks, flying at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and swimming. 7 nights from
