VIKINGS IN THE COMMUNITY Children In Need cash for teenagers’ project

-

WIDNES Vikings will be working to improve the mental resilience and lifestyles of young people in Halton thanks to receiving a three-year grant from national charity Children In Need.

Headed up by the Vikings Sporting Foundation, the programme will aim to have a positive influence on 200 children aged between 14 and 18 through offering a range of free sport, physical activity, and personal development opportunities each week with the aim to enhance mental resilience.

Participants will also build their academic ability and learn how to improve their communication skills.

Widnes Vikings community and commercial director Richard Munson said: “We engage on a daily basis with young people through both our work in schools and the Vikings Learning Centre and in doing so, have developed an understanding of how we can best offer support in a community setting.

“To have secured funding from Children In Need in what is a competitive grant process will allow us to provide a plethora of services for young people at the Halton Stadium which promote positive mental and physical wellbeing.”

The Vikings will be holding taster sessions at the stadium throughout the summer on Tuesdays between 4pm and 6pm.

To register a young person’s interest, or for more information on the project, email Charlotte Jakeman on charlottej@ widnesvikings. co.uk or call 0151 495 2250.
