Grapes ‘B’ secure a vintage victory in a classic clash with Helsby ‘D’

WEEK 14 in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n saw Section Three leaders Frodsham Cons take on third-placed Pavilions ‘C’.

And the pacesetter­s ran out the winners 160-106. Leading the way for the Cons were Mal Cleworth (21-5) and Harold Jannion (21-8) with the best reply for Pavilions coming via Doreen Goodwin (21-16) and Mike Littler (21-18).

Second-placed Halton RBL ‘B’ travelled to Pavilions ‘D’ in third and returned with a hard-fought victory 145-131.

The outstandin­g player on the night was young Kayley Welch for Halton who won 21-8.

Helsby ‘D’ locked horns with Grapes ‘B’ – and what a game it turned out to be.

Grapes eventually bagged the win by just a single point 141-140.

The best winner on the night was Terry Clare (21-9).

Section Two table-toppers Kingsley ‘A’ were without a game last week but remain in top spot.

Second-placed Egerton Memorial took on a weakened Willow Brook and just managed the victory 120-116.

The best win for Egerton was recorded by Keith Lee (21-14) while Barry Hopley shone for Willow (21-4).

Third-placed Norton Arms ‘B’ continued their fine form with a 161-113 victory at War Memorial.

Norton had three players winning to single figures – Mike Ward (21-4), Paul Winks and Neil Scott (both 21-7). The best reply for War Memorial came from Dennis Sharp (21-14).

Fourth-placed Subscripti­on took on Overton and triumphed 152-145 in a tight encounter. The best wins on the night were carded by David Walker and Colin Norton (both 21-12).

Section One leaders Norley kept their unbeaten record with a great 165-131 victory at Pavilions ‘B’.

Impressing for Norley was Gerrald Merry (21-9) with the only reply for Pavilions recorded by George Perris (21-18).

Castle SSC remain in second place after a 144-125 win at Kingswood ‘B’.

John Gurney (21-7) led the way for the Castle with the best reply for Kingswood by Graham Donnelly (21-6).

Third-placed Pavilions ‘A’ travelled to take on Halton Road outfit Grapes ‘A’ and came away with a fine160-99 victory.

Leading the way for the Lions were Brian Furber (21-6), along with Alan Briscoe and Neal Ocego (both 21-8).

The only reply for Grapes was carded by Les Harrington (21-13). ● Tonight sees the semi-finals of the P&A Morgan Cup. The draw is as follows: Grapes ‘C’ v Frodsham Cons at Norton and Grapes ‘A’ v Manley at War Memorial.
