Family fun night in memory of Albert

A NIGHT of family fun will be celebratin­g the memory of a Runcorn granddad who lost his life to a rare lung condition.

Albert John Jones, 67, passed away in 2013, but his legacy lives on and this Saturday, September 1, an extravagan­za of music and prizes will be taking place at the Bridgewate­r Bar And Function Room on Canal Street to raise cash for the British Lung Foundation (BLF) and Action For Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Supporters of the causes from around the country are expected to attend, and Sarah Douglas, daughter and organiser, said the entertainm­ents will include a big raffle, tombola and auction, which will have two tickets to watch a live recording of Celebrity Juice on ITV courtesy of host Keith Lemon, real name Leigh Francis, going under the hammer.

A signed Everton top ● and other football goodies will also be up for grabs.

Other attraction­s include hair braiding, children’s tattoos, sweet cones on sale, Mr Tees ice creams van and a full bar.

Music will be provided by singers Junior Dayvis, Grace Croughan, Vanessa Murray, Danny Smith and sibling duo Brian and Mia Graham.

Adding some magic to the evening will be The Party Princesses events company, which is sending unicorn princesses and Olaf, and Halton’s mayor and mayoress are also expected to be making an appearance.

The event starts at 6.30pm.

Sarah, who organised the event along with the rest of her dad’s family, said: “The event is in my dad’s memory – Albert John Jones, he died on July 15, 2013, aged 67 from the lung disease IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) that recently killed Keith Chegwin, and Amy Price is currently suffering from

“He had only been diagnosed seven months when he passed away.

“His own GP had never heard of IPF at the time.

“We weren’t told by his specialist at hospital that it was terminal, my brother Mark found out on Google. My dad left behind my mum Lynne Jones, me Sarah Douglas and my brother Mark Jones and he has two grandkids Teigan and Max.

“Dad was a big Everton supporter and often to went the match till his illness prevented him from doing this and was a member of ESCWARA the local supporters club.

“The whole family have organised this event to help raise awareness and money both for my dad’s fund at the BLF and also action for pulmonary fibrosis.

“The event is being attended by some of what we call our IPF family from all over the UK and we are having a display of lost IPF warriors on the night as a tribute to our IPF angels. All are welcome, donation on door for entry.”

“Raffle tickets will be £5 a strip or three for £10.”
