Booth bowls well but pacesetters prove just too strong for Runcorn

-

RUNCORN Cricket Club’s first XI travelled to top of the table Brooklands last Saturday.

The home team called the coin flip correctly and elected to bat first.

Runcorn’s bowlers began steadily but Brooklands’ batsman always looked in control.

Openers David Cunliffe (24) and Mark Bloomfield (20) took the score on well before being dismissed by Andy Scowcroft and Dan Booth respectively.

The next two batsman in were Jack Bagshaw and Brooklands’ in-form overseas player Kevin Carroll.

Bagshaw was caught by David McNamara off the bowling of Tom Heath, but it was the excellent Carroll (91) who was the difference between the sides.

Booth finally had him bowled but not before he had take the game away from Runcorn. The only other batsman of note was Ali Buchan who finished not out on 40. Brooklands closed on 227-8 off 44 overs.

The pick of the Runcorn bowlers was Booth with excellent figures of 4-28 from his 10 overs of work.

In reply Runcorn struggled against the Brooklands’ attack.

Despite three batsmen getting into the 20s – Jake Woodruff (20), Michael Jenner (23) and Shaun Lewitt (23) they just could not kick-on and secure a match-winning score.

Runcorn were eventually all out for 151 inside 41 overs, Carroll and Rob Leach each snapping up three wickets.

The firsts will aim to claim a morale-boosting victory this Saturday afternoon when they entertain Weaverham at Moughland Lane. The game has a 12pm start time. ●
