A ROAD menace who tried to evade police by speeding his car up Halton Brow in Runcorn at 60mph has been sent down for nine months for dangerous driving.

Scott Doran, 30, of Camelot Way, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday following his arrest last month.

The pursuit took place on Sunday, July 22, after Doran failed to stop for police after being spotted on the Mersey Gateway bridge at around 8.30pm.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said the pursuit continued into Runcorn, where Doran’s white Volkswagen Golf headed onto Daresbury Expressway before switching to the Central Expressway.

Dorwn then turned onto Halton Brow, a 30mph zone, where he accelerated to 60mph before turning left onto Castlefields Avenue South.

He emerged near Norton Lane he tried to do a U-turn at King Arthur’s Walk before becoming trapped in a dead end at the edge of the Town Park.

Doran’s Golf was in collision with a police car near Norton View and he fled on foot into the woods.

A police search ensued, involving a helicopter and dog team, but the fleeing driver evaded capture.

He was arrested a few days later on July 28.

Doran appeared at Chester on Friday, where he was scheduled to enter pleas to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

His Honour Judge Simon Berkson, presiding, sentenced him to nine months in prison for dangerous driving and three months concurrent for the other charge.

Nobody was injured in the collision on Norton Lane.

Police had wanted to speak to Doran in connection with a missing person when he was spotted on the Mersey Gateway bridge.
