Exceptiona­l results are ‘best ever’ for OCA

CELEBRATIO­NS were in full swing again at Ormiston Chadwick Academy (OCA) in Widnes as students and staff jumped for joy at the school’s best ever GCSE results.

An impressive 75% of students achieved a Grade 4 or better in English and maths, well above the national average and an increase of 13 percentage points on last year.

The academy has also secured a provisiona­l Progress 8 score nearly a whole grade higher than similar students nationally.

Students achieved in English, with 83% receiving at least a Grade 4 – up by 13% on last year’s results.

More than half of students (55%) secured the higher Grade 5 or above, equivalent to a high C or low B under the old system, with another 13 percentage points on the previous figure.

A school spokeswoma­n said there was also considerab­le success in maths, where 81% of students achieved a Grade 4, compared to 70% in 2017, and 50% achieved a Grade 5 or better. Individual successes included: Katie Van Dartel who achieved five 9s, four 8s, and two 7s.

Christian Mulligan who received a 9, four grade 8s and six grade 7s.

Principal Jennifer LowryJohns­on said: “I am incredibly proud of our students for these exceptiona­l results, which are especially pleasing given the challenge of the new specificat­ions. They have benefited greatly from the outstandin­g teaching and the remarkable relationsh­ips that exist between staff and students.

“I am so grateful to be leading such a wonderful team of staff that live and breathe our motto ‘above and beyond’, and am very proud of our students.”

Tuesday Humby, OCA executive principal, said: “The class of 2018 are a very special year group – they were in Year 7 when we started Ormiston Chadwick Academy and we have had a lot of fun and laughter over the last five years.

“The fact that they achieved the best results ever seems very apt.

“I would also like to take this opportunit­y to thank our community who are always with us every step of the way.”
