Hard work pays off as delighted pupils make the grade

-

● STUDENTS at The Grange Academy in Runcorn did themselves proud with an improved set of results in this GCSE exams.

A school spokesman said grades had risen in maths and English, with particular success in English language.

He said many pupils had done extremely well, with a significant number achieving grade 7 and above.

In addition, the school was pleased to announce a 100% pass rate in art and design, with 80% scoring grades 9-5.

There were also strong passes in the sciences.

An air of anticipation gave way to celebration for many as the envelopes were opened.

Top achievers who were rewarded with excellent grades and great progress included, Bethany Jones, Chloe Tedstone, Chloe Anderson, Lewis Worrall, Thomas Corbishley, Mae Zhai and Sam Webster.

Chloe Tedstone was particularly pleased with her results.

She said: “It has been really difficult at times and there has been some stress along the way but with the extra effort, it has certainly been worth it.”

Chloe is now moving on to Cronton College to study law, psychology and computing.

Tom Corbishley said he felt great about his results.

He said: “They were better than I expected. “My hard work has paid off!” Tom is now planning to continue his voluntary work with animals before going to Priestley College to study games design.

Another delighted learner was Chloe Anderson.

She said: “I feel so happy and I’m amazed with my results, especially my English.

“In primary school I needed extra support as this was my weakest subject and now I have achieved grade 7s in both language and literature.”

Chloe also achieved grade 8 in both her French and art and design.

Chloe now goes to Priestley College in September to study psychology, English language, French and sociology.

Staff from The Grange were on hand during the day to help students make informed decisions about their next steps.

Ian Critchley, principal at The Grange, said: “I am looking forward to continuing the drive for rapid ● improvement at the academy.

“I know with the support of parents and the community we can ensure that the learners at The Grange Academy can continue to make us proud of their achievements.

“I look forward to hearing the con- tinued success stories of the class of 2018.

“I wish them all well for the next stage of their education.”
