Norley in first loss to Castle

ON the Runcorn & District League front, the four top teams faced each other.

Section one leaders and previously unbeaten Norley travelled to third placed newcomers Castle SSC, who ran out 145-142 winners after both teams took four games each.

Leading the way for Castle was Andy Hamman 21-10 and best reply for Norley, Chris Koral 21-12.

Second placed Pavilions A beat fourth placed Hazel Pear 167-117, outstandin­g player on the night Pavilions’ Chris Price 21-4, with the only reply for the Pear Joe Tomkinson 21-20.

Section two saw second placed Manley take on previously unbeaten league leaders Kingsley A and ran out the winners 155-120. Barry Ellis 21-9 was the best win for Manley and replying for Kingsley Linda Bell 21-14.

Subscripti­on moved into third place after a superb 167-87 victory against a weakened Willow Brook.

Despite a 140-122 defeat at Egerton Memorial, Overton stay in fourth place. Leading from the front for Egerton were Dave Pryce 21-7, Phil Ellis and Bob Garner both 21-8 and best reply for Overton was Russell Gallagher 21-5.

Struggling at the foot of the table are newcomers Grapes C and things didn’t get any better after a 142-96 defeat against a weakened Norton Arms B team.

Andrew Gregory 21-2, Joe Scott 21-8 and Keith Scott 21-9 led the way for Norton and best reply for Grapes was Alan Massey 21-16

The week’s best win in section two was Dave Whitley (War Memorial) 21-0.

Section three leaders Frodsham Cons travelled to take on second placed Pavilions D who took the win 132-131 by one chalk. Leading the way for Pavilions Maurice Melvin 21-8 and Peter Dumbill 21-11, outstandin­g player for the Cons was Mal Cleworth 21-5.

Third placed Rock Park took on Grapes B and ran out the winners 145-113..

Goshawk had a full house 168-111 victory over Helsby D. Leading the way for Goshawk were Tim Blackburn 21-5 and Jean Harley 21-6.
