Boost for city bus links

TRANSPORT links between Widnes and Liverpool are set to become easier as Stagecoach announced a brand new service.

Stagecoach Merseyside And South Lancashire has launched a brand new cut-price express service – the X5, which will connect Liverpool City Centre and Widnes.

The speedy route will run from Widnes to Liverpool ONE via Speke Boulevard, providing shoppers with a handy, costeffect­ive route to the heart of Liverpool city centre in under an hour.

Rob Jones, Managing Director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “Our new X5 service will cut the hassle and the price of travel for people journeying into Liverpool city centre from Widnes.

“This is a key route for commuters and people travelling into the city to enjoy a day’s shopping or leisure activity – so we’re delighted to be providing a quick, ● comfortabl­e, and affordable means of travel for them.

“With stats showing that around 29% of shoppers on UK High Streets use the bus to get to and from the city centre – buses are the lifeblood of our high street shops.

“We’re pleased to be helping shoppers and boosting city centre footfall and look forward to welcoming new and existing passengers on this speedy express service.”

The new service, which launched this week, is available Monday to Saturday.

Passengers can enjoy the use of charging points and free wi-fi on the journey.

The X5 has much shorter journey time as it has fewer stops – helping people get to their destinatio­n even faster.

The new route will call at: ● Lunts Heath, Derby Road roundabout ● Moorfield Road, The Crows Nest ● Widnes, Green Oaks ● Ditton New Inn ● Western Ave, Speke Boulevard ● Aigburth Road, Mersey Road ● Liverpool ONE

A Stagecoach spokeswoma­n said: “The new service offers great value tickets too.

“Adult tickets cost £2.20 one way, £4.20 for an all-day ticket, or all-week for £14.

“Under-19s pay £1.10 one way, £2.10 all day and £7 for an all-week ticket. Regular travellers can benefit from unlimited travel in their chosen travel zone when they buy a four week and monthly Xtra ticket, or a student bus pass – unirider.

“Stagecoach buses offer contactles­s payment too, making the journey even more convenient.”
