AWIDNES nightclub that was subject to noise complaints from residents living in the flats above last year could be turned into residential apartments.

The Volt, also known as Pop Planet, on Victoria Road will be turned into four units should permission be granted.

A design statement submitted by Tarpey Woodfine Architects to Halton Borough Council said that the ground floor and basement of 98 Victoria Road would be converted into apartments, bringing the total in the building to 16.

Earlier this year the Weekly News reported that the licensee had given up the premises licence after deciding they were not experienced enough for the role.

In 2017, the club agreed to more permit conditions after noise complaints from residents living in flats above the club. ●

These included changing its name from The Volt to Pop Planet.

Tarpey Woodfine Architects, acting as agents for the applicant Hertfordshirebased C2R Developments Ltd, said under the proposed conversion, external doors on Market Street and Victoria Road would be replaced, and existing external lighting will be removed.

The firm said upgrades will be made to meet building regulations, with walls, floors and ceilings to be insulated and double glazed windows to be added.

No changes will be made to either vehicle or pedestrian access to the site.

“To the Market Street elevation it is proposed to remove the existing nightclub fire escape doors and build up the opening to sill level with facing brickwork and a new sill to match the existing. “All sills will be painted in black.” Public consultation is open until September 27 with Halton Council aiming to decide the matter by around October 26.
