Barber is a cut above for the Ball

-

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Terry Abbott Memorial Trophy pre-lims were played.

At the Simms Cross Institute, Halton Stadium took on the Mill Brow SC and claimed the first game through Alan Magee. The Brow replied, winning three games in a row via Chris Bright (16 darts), Neil Platt and opening pair, Chris Bright & Paul Woodward. The Stadium then recovered a point through John Bowles & Eddie Dootson. However, the Brow’s Dave Powell & Ray Linger, John McWhinnie and Dave Powell (13 darts) took the next three games securing their match victory. Tony Jackson then took the final game for Halton Stadium, but it was just academic.

At the Mill Brow SC, the Millfield took on Widnes Bowling Club ‘B’ with the Millfield’s Ian Wall securing the first game. Dave Cowan (13 darts) levelled for the Bowler ‘B’ in the second contest. The Millfield responded with two in a row through Chris Taylor and opening pair, Dave Sutton & Roy Jerram. The Bowler’s Mike Ruane & Dave Cowan pulled back a point as they took the next game. The Millfield edged further ahead with a win from Billy Fox & Michael Howard. Mike Ruane won the next contest keeping the Bowler ‘B’ in with a chance. However the Millfield had other ideas as Billy Fox and Michael Howard (19 darts) claimed the final two games and the match for the Millfield.

At the Ball, the home outfit took on Widnes Bowling Club ‘A’ and won the first game through Ste Whitfield.

Scott Grady (18 darts) then levelled for the Bowler ‘A’. The Ball took the lead again, this time through Barry Highfield. The Bowler levelled through their opening pair Scott Grady & Joe Batty (17 darts). They then went ahead via Alex McGill & Harry Ellis. The Ball were on the proverbial ball, though, as Karl Whitfield & Anthony Hall made it 3-3. A further win apiece from the Bowler ‘A’ teams Joe Batty and the Ball’s Karl Whitfield still kept the scores level.

The outcome was finally resolved as John Barber took the final game and the match for the Ball.
