Title triumphs celebrated by Norley, Kingsley ‘A’ and Frodsham Cons

BATTLES in the three sections in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n are now over until next spring.

Section One champions Norley travelled to take on second-placed Pavilions ‘A’ and finished with a narrow 133-131 loss in a hard-fought encounter at Sandy Lane.

Leading the way for the Lions with a captain’s performanc­e was Neal Ocego (21-7) with support from teammates John Briggs and Dave Williams (both 21-11).

Replying for the champions were Rob Winnington (21-9) and Gerald Merry (21-11).

Newcomers to the Associatio­n, Castle SSC, have done exceptiona­lly well finishing in third place after a fantastic full house 168-88 victory over Helsby ‘A’.

Impressing for Castle were Elle Winnington (21-3), Willy Andrews (21-7) and John Gurney (21-8).

The two teams in the relegation zone were Norton Arms ‘A’ and Helsby ‘C’.

Section Two champions are Kingsley ‘A’.

They finished the season with a 161-93 win against War Memorial. Leading the way for Kingsley were Linda Bell (21-3), husband Derek Bell (21-7) and Mike Clay (also 21-7).

The best reply for War Memorial came from Les Illidge (21-14).

Second-placed Manley completed their season with a 136-109 win against Overton.

Phil Cottiga (21-4), Mike Boulton and Joan Southerton (both 21-6) led the way for Manley. Replying for Overton was Colin Norton (21-10).

Third in Section Two are Subscripti­on. They concluded their campaign on Monday night at Grapes ‘C’.

The Halton Road outfit were a player short and went down 161-99. Shining for Subscripti­on were Ray Barnett (21-7) and Dennis Rigby (21-10). The best reply for Grapes came via Sam Henderson (21-14).

The two teams in the relegation area are Willow Brook and Grapes ‘C’.

Section Three champions are Frodsham Cons.

Frodsham wrapped up their season with a 147-135 loss at Goshawk. The best winner on the night for Goshawk was Anthony McCrorie (21-4) while the best reply for the Cons was recorded by Harold Jannion (21-13).

Second-placed Halton RBL ‘B’ could not take advantage only managing a 137-132 win over Helsby ‘D’.

The best winner for the Legion was Peter Hollitt Jr (21-4). Replying for Helsby were Sam Gittings and Stan Perkins (both 21-13). Legion just missed out to win the section by only seven chalks.

Third place went to Pavilions ‘D’.

Pavilions completed their campaign last week and were without a game this past week. ● The Tudor Pairs took place earlier this week and full details will be in next Thursday’s Weekly News.
