ARUNCORN youngster has been grinning like the Cheshire Cat after receiving a letter from The Queen.

Lydia Harkness, nine, wrote to Her Majesty after her visit to Runcorn and Widnes to open the Mersey Gateway bridge with Duchess Of Sussex Meghan Markle in June.

Dad Phil Harkness said Lydia had enjoyed watching The Queen’s arrival in Runcorn and setting off for Widnes in the Royal car from a perfect spot on Holloway with her gran.

The letter, dated September 4, is written and signed by a lady-inwaiting and features a Balmoral Castle letter head.

Phil said the Royal reply came as a bit of a surprise.

He said: “It was sent at the end of June so it was two months or so.

“Lydia went with her grandmother, she had a great view on Hol- loway opposite the exit.

“She’s got a permanent smile on her face now.”

The letter said: “Dear Lydia, The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter and kind words following the visit by Her Majesty and The Duchess Of Sussex.

“The Queen and Her Royal High- ● ness greatly appreciated the warm welcome they received on arrival in Runcorn and throughout the visit, and Her Majesty was glad to hear you, too, had an enjoyable time.

“The Queen is most grateful for your thoughtfulness in writing as you did, and I am to thank you very much indeed.”
