Goldmine shine brightly with vital late victories to defeat Millfield

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the 501 League continued.

The Mill Brow SC at home to Halton Stadium started badly, conceding the first three games to the Stadium’s Alan Magee (17 darts), Joe Kelly (16 darts and 180) and Tony Jackson (16 and 17 darts).

The Brow’s opening pair, Dave Powell & Dean Birks (15, 16 and 19 darts) recovered a point. However, there was no stopping the Stadium as they took the next four games through John Bowles & Kevin Garcia (19 and 19 darts), Tony Jackson & John Kilkenny (17 darts), Kenny Murphy and Kevin Garcia (19 darts and 180) confirming their match success.

The Brow’s Dave Powell (139 finish) took the final game, but it was just academic.

The Millfield at home to the Goldmine conceded the first two games to the visitors’ Karl Windisch (19 and 15 darts and 156 finish) and Lee Hayes.

The Millfield’s Ian Wall then recovered a point. However, the Goldmine’s Sean Bell & Lee Hayes (18 darts) recovered a point. The Millfield were still in the game as a win from Ian Wall & Chris Taylor added a further point.

The Goldmine were still edging ahead as Mike Callaghan & Karl Windisch took the next game.

Billy Fox then added to the Millfield’s tally. But it was all over as the Goldmine took the final two games and the match through Mike Callaghan (103 finish) and Jack Dunn.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Ball conceded the first two games to the visitors’ Ste Whitfield and Anthony Hall (14 darts).

Brian Dutton then recovered a point for the Stute, only to see the Ball take the next four games through Anthony Hall & Karl Whitfield (100 finish), M Ball & J Bate and Lol Fonterigo & D Bishop securing their match victory.

The Stute took the final two games via Glyn Owen and Mick Cullen, but they were merely consolatio­ns.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Hammer & Pincers, had a good night as they whitewashe­d the visitors, taking all nine games.

The rout began with Andy Beddows, Scott Grady and Mark Smith in the singles.

This was followed by pairs Dave Pickles & Dave Gerrard, Joe Batty & Scott Grady and Scott Byrne & Phil Corless. And then back in the singles, Mark Delooze, Joe Batty and Alex McGill wrapped up the comprehens­ive result.
