Waters at Town for a month

-

CHESTER FC defender Matty Waters has joined Runcorn Town on a one-month loan from National League North as he looks to continue his comeback from a stress fracture to his shin.

The 20-year old left-back came through Chester’s highly-rated Academy system and made 16 appearances for the first-team in 2016-17 before signing a full time deal at the start of the last campaign.

He spent time on loan last season at Sutton Coldfield Town at the same time that Tom Crawford was with Town but his season ended early due to injury. ●

Commenting on the signing, Runcorn boss, Chris Herbert, said: “Matty is a quality full-back who I have worked with before in my time at Chester.

“He will add strength defensively but also likes to join in with attacks.

“The injury he sustained last season was frustrating for him and needed mainly rest, and he has not got his place back so he comes in for a month to regain his fitness.

“This is pretty similar to what Tom Crawford did with us last season and Tom went back to Chester flying and never looked back.

“He is now playing week in week out for Notts County, so that’s how good this type of loan is for players.

“They can make it work in their favour and with Matty’s attitude, I know he will do that and go back a better, fitter player.”
