Teams vie for spot in final four

ON Monday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the quarterfin­als of the Widnes Bowling Club Cup were played.

At Widnes Bowling Club, the Ball took on the Goldmine. The Goldmine’s great start with wins for Karl Windisch, Chris Hough, Lee Hayes and pairs Karl Windisch & Chris Hough and Sean Bell & Terry Roach guaranteed their progress. The Ball’s Barry Highfield & James Holden recovered a point, but there was no stopping the Goldmine as they won the remaining three games via Mike Callaghan, Jack Dunn and Shane Littler sealing an 8-1 win.

The Stadium took on Simms Cross Institute and won the first four games through Joe Kelly, Tony Jackson (18 darts). Eddie Dootson and John Bowles (14 darts, 180 and 140 checkout) & Kevin Garcia (14 darts). The Stute recovered a point via Glyn Owen & Andy Abbott, but the Stadium were on a roll as Tony Jackson & Joe Price and Kenny Murphy (140 and 137 finish) brought home the next two games.

The Stute’s Mick Cullen won the penultimat­e game whilst the Stadium’s Neil Ward took the final contest to wrap up a comfortabl­e 7-2 victory.

At the Mill Brow SC, the Mill Brow hosted Widnes Bowling Club and conceded the first two games to the visitors’ Scott Byrne and Mark Delooze. The Brow replied taking the next two games via Neil Platt and opening pair, Dave Powell & Dean Birks to level the score.

A further win apiece from the Bowler’s Scott Grady & Joe Batty and the Brow’s Paul Linger & Neil Platt made it 3-3.

Further wins from the Brow’s Dave Powell and Brian Spruce ensured the Mill Brow SC’s victory.

The Bowler’s Andy Beddows took the final game but it was purely academic.

At the Millfield, the Millfield faced Hammer & Pincers. The home side won all nine games as Chris Hall, Keith Horabin and Mark Middleton in the singles and Ian Wall & Billy Fox, Chris Hall & Keith Horabin and Chris Taylor & Mark Middleton made it 6-0.

Then, back in the singles, Chris Taylor, Ian Wall and Mike Howard completed the rout.
