Tudor Pairs glory for Drinkwater and Wingfield to conclude season
LAST Tuesday saw the quarter-finals of the Tudor Pairs take place in the Runcorn & District Bowling Association.
The first last-eight clash saw arguably the jointfavourites for the competition, Mark Furber and Dave Williams, take on Section Three’s husband and wife pairing of John and Maggie Coats. And what an upset it turned out to be with John and Maggie running out the winners 21-17.
The second quarter-final match saw George Perris and Ken Plumpton lock horns with Joe Tomkinson and Karl Rogers. And it was the latter who triumphed 21-16.
The third quarter-final paired team colleagues Connell Redmond and Adele Maddison against Paul Drinkwater and Phil Wingfield.
Paul and Phil won the game 21-16.
The final last-eight game saw last season’s winners, Neal Ocego and Chris Price, face Peter Goodwin and Terry Evans. Neal and Chris eased through 21-3.
Thursday night saw the weather not too good for the players with constant rain but the green held up very well and the semi-finals duly got under way.
The first game pitched John and Maggie Coats against Joe Tomkinson and Karl Rogers.
It looked like the occasion got to John and Maggie as Joe and Karl cruised to a 21-6 victory.
The second semi-final produced a fantastic game between Paul and Phil and Neal and Chris.
In a memorable match, Paul and Phil just edged their way into the final after a 21-20 victory.
The final paired four players from Hazel Pear – Joe and Karl against Paul and Phil.
Paul and Phil raced into an early 7-0 lead after six ends but it was not long before Joe and Karl took the lead 12-10 with some great bowling.
