TWO Halton charities are celebrating after being presented with their share of last year’s mayoral fundraising efforts.

Cllrs Joan and Alan Lowe raised £18,782.84 during their year in the role.

Cllr Alan, the mayor, and mayoress Joan chose Halton Speak Out, and HEARTS (Halton Entertainment Art Regional Theatre School) as the beneficiaries of their charity fund. Each has now received £9,391.42. Mal Hampson, of Halton Speak Out, said: “Halton Speak Out are delighted to receive the money from the mayor’s charity.

“We will be using this funding to enable us to continue our scheme Safe In Town here in Halton.

“The scheme works with members of our most vulnerable groups within the borough and our local shops, and community venue, and police services.

“The aim of Safe In Town is to support people to feel safe in our community.”

Louis Neeves, HEARTS founder, said: “HEARTS are most grateful to the retiring mayor and mayoress and the funding committee for all their hard work to enable us to receive just under £10,000.

“The monies are earmarked to take the whole school to visit a West End show in the capital along with a backstage tour, to experience the wonderful world of performing, and an overnight stay in a London hotel.

“We also plan to purchase some new ● microphones and upgrade our current website for the future. Anyone wishing to join our project should contact me on 07734 055 287.”

The former mayoral pair have thanked the public for their support.

Cllr Alan Lowe said: “It was a real privilege to represent the borough and to support these two excellent charities.

“A big thank you to everyone who to enable us to raise such a fantastic amount, and to The Brindley and the stadium, who were wonderful all year, and all the performers at the civic show at The Brindley. “It was a brilliant year. “The highlight was the schoolchildren – they always enjoyed the visit to the Town Hall, and I’d encourage more schools to do it.

“We really had our eyes opened to the number of volunteers there are in Halton.

“They are the unsung heroes who do so much for the borough.”
