Month to remember for Potter
RUNCORN LINNETS’ Bowland Brewery Player of the Month for September is Freddie Potter.
A key member of the Linnets’ squad for the best part of four years, Potter has taken to the Evo-Stik League like a duck to water on his return to the competition.
After coming back from a break in the USA with his new fiancée at the start of the month, Potter was introduced from the substitutes’ bench for the start of the second half in the match at Colwyn Bay and played a key role in turning the game on its head. ●
His contribution included a sublime piece of skill to set up the only goal of the encounter.
A week later, previously unbeaten Colne visited the Millbank Linnets Stadium, and Potter not only opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory but also clinched the man-of-thematch vote in the regular poll on the Linnets Updates Twitter site.
The club’s only league defeat of the month came against Atherton Collieries but even that could not keep the Linnets’ centre-forward quiet. His speculative effort from outside the box brought an equalising goal.
A Tuesday night at Mossley would bring about what will forever be known as one of Potter’s best-ever moments for the club and without doubt his best ever goal.
With his side trailing, Potter acrobatically converted Connor McCarthy’s cross with an overhead kick of the highest quality.
He then slammed home the winning penalty kick deep into added time to round off an exceptional month for the Linnets’ very own ‘Wizard’.
