Coroner’s review as cause of girl’s death not known

-

A CORONER is reported to be ‘reviewing the file’ into the tragic death of Runcorn teenager Maisy Lewis a year ago.

The 14-year-old schoolgirl was found dead in a wooded area of parkland at the edge of Sandymoor in Runcorn on Sunday, October 15, 2017, but no inquest date has been set.

Warrington Coroner’s Officer said a coroner is reviewing the file.

Maisy’s death prompted a flood of tributes online and in cards, flowers and balloons that covered the gate in the area where she was found near Walsingham Drive.

Hundreds of wellwishers marked her passing including a vigil where lanterns were released and songs sang ● and a memorial walk.

Sandymoor School, where Maisy had been in Year 10, opened a book of condolences and organised support services for distraught peers.

Cheshire police reported at the time that her death was not being treated as suspicious but a year on and the cause of the tragedy remains unconfirmed.

A provisional cause of death by Warrington Coroner’s Office has been recorded as ‘neck compression’.

Last year, Sandymoor School recalled Maisy as a star pupil with a bright future.

It said: “Her Year 10 peers adored her.

“She affected everyone in the school, from Year 11 down to Year 7.

“Maisy was a star pupil and teachers described her as a delight to teach.

“Maisy had many future career choices in front of her as she was on track to achieve grades that would have enabled her to go on to study A-levels and then go to university if she had wanted to, in any subject area.”
