Kids mark Cerebral Palsy Day at centres

-

● CHILDREN attending education classes at cerebral palsy charity Stick ‘n’ Step turned green to celebrate World Cerebral Palsy Day recently at the charity’s two centres in Runcorn and Wallasey.

With the classrooms decorated in green, the children played games with green balls and green rings, took part in greenthemed quizzes, got messy with green arts and crafts, and even dressed in green clothes.

World Cerebral Palsy is a movement of people with cerebral palsy and their families and the organisations that support them, in more than 65 countries.

There are 17 million people across the world living with cerebral palsy (CP). Another 350 million people are closely connected to a child or adult with CP.

Sarah Smithson, operations manager at Stick ‘n’ Step, said: “We look forward to World CP Day every year as we always have so much fun.

“It’s very important to raise awareness of this condition – one in 400 babies are estimated to be born every year in the UK with some form of cerebral palsy and it is the most common physical disability in childhood.

“At Stick ‘n’ Step our aim is for every child who comes to us to be able to reach their personal potential.” ● ●

Stick ‘n’ Step provides the children with totally free of charge conductive education sessions, allowing them to gain the skills they need to live independent lives.

Children from 97 families, from across the region, attend these sessions weekly or twice weekly at the charity’s two centres.
