Recycling site to hold open event
HALTON householders will be able to find out more about how recycling from across the region is sorted and recycled at special open day being held tomorrow, Friday, October 26.
The doors will be opened to members of the public at Gillmoss Materials Recovery Facility, near Fazakerley in Liverpool.
It is one of two facilities in the region that together process more than 200,000 tonnes of recyclable material from homes in Halton, Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and Wirral.
Resource management company, Veolia – which operates the facility on behalf of Merseyside Recycling And Waste Authority, uses a range of manual, optical and mechanical techniques for turning the region’s waste into a resource for further use.
Veolia said there will be lots to see and do, tips on how residents can be more sustainable, handson activities for young- sters and the opportunity the view the facility in action.
Visitors will be able to witness first hand how around 90 conveyor belts move recyclable material around the facility from the viewing walkway and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Booking is not required for the free event at Gillmoss Materials Recovery Facility, Bridgehouse Lane, Liverpool, L10 5HA.
People of all ages can visit anytime between ● 10am-2pm October 26.
Veolia runs the Recycling Discovery Centre, also based at Gillmoss.
