Malham is est location

the middle Craven Fault, having been eroded backwards by the action of water over millions of years.

The group walked north to Langscar Gate then west to Langcliffe before turning to cross Malham Moor to join the Pennine Way.

They visited Malham Tarn, Malham Cove and finally Janet’s Foss on their return to Malham.

Peter Gallagher led a nine mile moderate C walk taking paths just televised by Julia Bradbury.

The group headed north east to Janet’s Foss, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by woodland and as legend has it, behind the waterfalls is home to the queen of fairies, Janet (or Jennett).

Moving on the group walked to Gordale Scar, a spectacula­r gorge complete with a waterfall, cut into the limestone hillside.

Walking over the hills the group visited the top of Malham Cove to view the limestone pavements then continued on to join the Pennine Way following this to Malham, not to be out done the walkers visited the base of Malham Cove before returning to the village.

The D walkers led by Jodie Coulhurst took the well warn paths visiting all the popular sites, doing five miles in total with quite a bit of climbing.

The area is a marvellous place to visit but when walking on the limestone care has to be taken as it is very slippery.

The colours of autumn were magnificen­t, and the waterfalls were gushing after the recent rains.

There was plenty of opportunit­y for a look around the village and partake in some refreshmen­t before travelling home.
