Millfield go Howard’s way to success in a real thriller with Mill Brow

ON Monday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued with round six being played.

Halton Stadium at home to the Ball took the first two games through Alan Magee and Tony Jackson.

The Ball then came back to level with wins from Ste Whitfield and opening pair, Ste Whitfield & Martin Ball.

The Stadium then claimed a further two wins from Joe Kelly & Tony Jackson and John Bowles & Alan Magee.

The Ball’s Karl Whitfield (18 and 18 darts) recovered a point, only to see the Stadium’s John Bowles (180) level the score at 4-4 before Eddie Dootson took the final game and the match for the Stadium.

Hammer & Pincers at home to Simms Cross Institute conceded the first two games to the Stute’s Tony Green and Ray Dutton.

Rob Sutton then recovered a point for the Hammer.

The Stute, however, went on a roll to take the next five games via Brian Dutton & Glyn Owen, Brian Abbott & Barry Lightfoot, Dave Evans & Jack Pennington, Brian Dutton and Glyn Owen to secure their match triumph.

The Hammer’s Sean Connor took the final game but it was merely academic.

Mill Brow SC at home to the Millfield took the first two games through Dean Birks (17 darts) and Neil Platt.

The Millfield’s Billy Fox and opening pair Ronnie Greylish & Chris Booth then levelled the score.

A further win from Billy Fox & Alan Sutton took them ahead.

The Brow’s Paul Linger & Neil Platt (17 darts) made it 3-3. A further win apiece from the Millfield’s Alan Sutton (102 finish) and the Brow’s Paul Linger (18 and 13 darts plus a 180) made it 4-4.

Both teams were equally determined, but the Millfield took the final game and the match through Mike Howard.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Goldmine conceded the first game to the visitors’ Mike Callaghan.

The score was then levelled by the Bowler’s Joe Batty.

Two in a row from Lee Hayes (19 darts) and opening pair, Sean Bell (180) & Terry Roche put the Goldmine ahead.

The Bowler then went on to recover a point via Dave Gerrard & Alex McGill, but the Goldmine were in form as three in a row from Lee Hayes (114 checkout) & Adam Mullally (15 darts), Terry Roach and Shane Littler ensured their victory.

Alex McGill secured the final game for the Bowler, but it was just a consolatio­n.
