-

Sale Ladies II 2 Runcorn Ladies I 5 RUNCORN Hockey Club’s ladies’ first-team earned an excellent 5-2 victory at the second string from Sale Ladies last Saturday.

The visitors were looking to claim their third win of the campaign, and on a warm and sunny afternoon they were swiftly out of the proverbial blocks.

It was not long before Steph Woodstock opened the scoring with a shot from the centre of the circle. ●

Teammate Carys Claffey doubled the lead shortly afterwards when Sale failed to clear their lines and the Runcorn player pounced on the loose ball to find the net.

Claffey added a third goal when she was found at the far post and she slotted the ball into an unguarded net.

Sale reduced Runcorn’s lead to two goals before Woodstock added her second of the game after a pass from Rebecca Fisher found her in open space with only the keeper to beat, which she duly did.

Thanks to some brilliant Runcorn defence the score at half-time remained at 4-1.

The second half saw both sides create goalscoring chances.

Sale scored their second of the game with a low shot from a penalty corner.

The final goal of the contest came from Runcorn when Jayne Buck played a ball through to Woodstock, who passed the Sale keeper on the top of the circle and completed her hat-trick sealing a 5-2 triumph for Runcorn.

Jayne Buck was named as Runcorn’s player-ofthe-match.
