Youths attack pair over bike

DETECTIVES are investigat­ing after two men were assaulted while trying to retrieve a stolen bicycle from some youths in Widnes.

A Cheshire police spokesman said the two victims, aged 46 and 47, were walking along Milton Road near King George V playing fields when one of them spotted two teenagers with a bike that had been pilfered from his home on Lodge Lane earlier on.

They approached the boys and asked for it back, at which point an altercatio­n took place and the men were assaulted.

The 47-year-old suffered serious injuries and the 46-year-old suffered minor ones. They were taken to Whiston Hospital.

The youths fled the scene towards Hale Road.

They left the bike behind but took a Samsung mobile phone that they had stolen from one of the victims.

Both offenders are believed to be ● white and in their late teens.

One of them was approximat­ely 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall with a medium build and short, dark hair.

The other was slim with mousey brown hair.

He was wearing a grey tracksuit and riding a dark bike with grey writing on it.

Detective Sergeant Marc Roberts said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the offenders and make them face the consequenc­es of their actions.

“As part of the investigat­ion we are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the descriptio­ns of the offenders and believes they may know their identities.

“We also want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed it or saw something suspicious.

“King George VI Park is a busy area and I believe there will have been a number of people in the area at the time who may have vital informatio­n for our investigat­ion.

“I urge anyone with any informatio­n about the incident, no matter how small, to contact the team here in Widnes on 101, quoting IML 232339.”
