Talented pair show their skills

-

TWO young prospects from Kingsway Boxing Club in Widnes made their first appearances of the season last week, taking part in skills bouts in Liverpool and Northwich respectively.

On Thursday, 11-yearold Joseph White made his debut for the club, boxing on Golden Gloves ABC’s show at Fusion Night Club in Liverpool.

Sharing a ring with him was fellow debutant and home boxer Oli Potter.

Although both lads lacked experience, they displayed good footwork, defence and a willingness to throw punches in an entertaining three rounds. Both lads emerged as a credit to their respective clubs.

Joseph put in a composed performance, staying calm under pressure whilst both leading off and countering nicely with straight shots, with the jab in particular catching the eye.

The following evening Sean Hagan took part in his fourth skills bout, appearing on Boxing Fit Academy’s show in Northwich.

Sean boxed a skilful southpaw in home fighter Mikey Doran.

Both lads showcased excellent skills in what was a good opening bout to the evening’s proceedings.

A competitive contest is now under consideration for Sean, such has been his improvement in recent months.

The club will now be looking to get Sean, Joseph and other boxers in action before Christmas, in what is shaping up to be a busy season ahead for the club. ●
