Batty hits target to win epic

ON Monday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club League continued with round seven being played.

The Ball at home to the Goldmine conceded the first three games to the visitors’ Karl Windisch (19 darts), Brad Flemming and Terry Roach (16 and 18 darts plus a 180). The Ball’s opening pair took the next game, including a maximum. However, the Goldmine were still on a roll as they took the next two games through John Glover & Lee Hayes and Sean Bell & Terry Roach (14 darts) to ensure their match victory. The Ball took the next game only for the Goldmine’s Tom Callaghan and John Glover (18 and 15 darts plus a 180 and a 130 finish) claimed the remaining two games to wrap up a 7-2 win.

The Mill Brow SC at home to Widnes Bowling Club had a bad start as the Bowler took the first four games via Alex McGill, Tommy Robertson, Tex Bowles and opening pair, Alex McGill (106 finish) & Dave Gerrard.

The Brow came back with a vengeance, taking four games of their own through Neil Platt & Paul Linger, Kevin Helps & Brian Spruce, Dave Powell (18 darts) and Paul Linger to level things up. Joe Batty then won the final game and the thrilling match for Widnes Bowling Club.

The Millfield at home to the Hammer & Pincers won all nine games.

Ronnie Greylish, Mark Middleton and Chris Booth began the rout in the singles. This was followed by pairs Ian Wall & Danny Wood, Chris Taylor & Dave Jones and Billy Fox & Alan Sutton before being completed by singles Chris Taylor, Billy Fox and Alan Sutton.

Simms Cross Institute at home to Halton Stadium saw the visitors’ Tony Jackson take the first game. Ray Dutton threw next and levelled matters for the Stute.

The Stadium then started a match-winning rally taking the next six games through Joe Kelly, John Bowles & Tony Jackson, Eddie Dootson & Kevin Garcia (19 darts), Joe Kelly & Joe Price, Eddie Dootson and Kevin Garcia (18 darts & 180).

Glyn Owen secured the final game for the Stute, but it was just academic in the end.
