Letter to Gateway operators on signs

- Terry McArdle

IHAVE just read with some interest your new press release regards the new signage for the Gateway.

A few points that I have noticed are you intend to still apply the unlawful tolls as shown by the TPT on various improprieties.

Your new RED ‘C’ is actually WHITE on a red circle background.

There is no mention of a ‘road user charge’ on any signage approved or unapproved.

Still poor information as I have reported on many occasions to all concerned with the operations and invented companies associated with this bridge.

‘Pay on line at Merseyflow by midnight tomorrow’ is still assuming EVERYBODY has access to the internet or on line device, which is basically the only way to find out any alternative methods.

It is only recently that

Payzone has been shown in a much better way than the previous almost hidden method on Merseyflow’s website and needs online access to see this information.

There are many signs on various roads at all speeds in the UK that have more lines of information or destination than your ‘pay on line sign’, still NO web address or telephone number shown.

Additional signage should also be applied to local motorways denoting this route is now subject to additional road user charges, instead of it being an area of entrapment for the unwary motorists.

I also assume this why a previous 60 mph road without walls was re-routed with walls to force strangers onto the bridge.

Please don’t say it is for safety reasons as the roads all ran well for 30 years or more before this walling was put in place.

Some time back I and another person had a meeting at Merseylink’s office and I suggested that emergency telephone numbers be shown on the bridge for the benefit of those who have mobile devices.

There are NO emergency communications on the Gateway, it was explained they are not needed due to the CCTV system.

Unfortunately this system cannot be trusted as it would appear it has not been monitored 24 hours a day in the past and I honestly have no faith in being monitored 24/7 in the future. The new signs are not on the current list of sign approvals by the Department Of Transport.

I therefor request a copy of the approval you have from DoT forthwith.

I also request a full refund of all these unlawful tolls forced upon my family’s vehicles.
