Ged hands over reins as John takes on club president role

-

Both Julie and I are very excited about the prospect of what lies ahead and are thoroughly looking forward to the challenge”.

In response, the former man in charge said “I have no doubt that John and Julie will do a great job for this club.

“John is a Wids man through and through, and has already made his mark over many years; more latterly with the production of the recent Wids documentary film and book which has just been completed”. As an aside, Martin Griffiths now assumes the role of ‘President Elect’ and will work alongside John before accepting the Presidential baton in 2020-21.

Following the release of the fixtures for the First Team a couple of weeks ago, another piece of the rugby jigsaw fell into place with the announcement of the makeup of the Halbro North West Leagues for the other senior teams at the Wids.

After a successful year last term, the Seconds will again compete in Division Two South where they will be joined by Altrincham Kersal, Holmes Chapel, Helsby, Liverpool St Helens, Northwich, Didsbury Toc H, Liverpool Collegiate, Crewe & Nantwich, Anselmians, Manchester, Moore and Lymm.

The Thirds will now complete in a re-vamped Division South-West league and will consist of teams from Northwich, Oswestry, Congleton, Linley, Wallasey, Hoylake, Firwood Waterloo, Liverpool St

Helens, Christleton, Ellesmere Port, Prenton, Eagle and Oldershaw. ●

A full list of fixtures will be added to the Club website shortly.

Meanwhile, pre-season got underway last week with around 40 players turning up to dust off the cobwebs and get themselves fit and raring to go when the real action starts in a few weeks time.

The coaching staff of Andy McIntosh, Richie Barraclough and Simon Alderson were in attendance to run the rule over proceedings, and they declared themselves delighted with both the turnout and the effort of the players. It was apparent that the success of the First Team had a big effect on some of the fringe players – who were all pushing themselves hard in order to make an early impression and claim pole position.

New players are always welcome at the Club who run three senior teams covering all abilities.

So, if you are new to the area, or simply wish to dust off your old boots, then you will find a warm welcome awaiting at Heath Road.

Training is every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.45pm.
