Six-a-side football scheme

-

SIX-A-SIDE football has now become more accessible in Widnes.

Soccersixes operate leagues affiliated by the FA on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Ormiston Chadwick Academy on Liverpool Road and at Wade Deacon High School on Birchfield Road.

Qualified referees are used to officiate games and all matches are 40 minutes long.

Historically an entry fee has been payable to join the league, but now there will be no entry fee and teams can also join all year round at any time.

Fixtures and league tables are on the league website and updated on a weekly basis.

More than 100 players weekly take part in the league and any standard of player or team are welcome to join.

People can sign up as teams or individual players who are then entered into a team.

The weekly fee to play is from £3.50 per player and each team plays one game per week.

Soccersixes director Matt Scoffham said: “We are proud to provide a successful community event in the area on a weekly basis and also assist in increasing participation in football.

“Many players attend the weekly event and over the years it has become more popular.

“Anyone over 16-years-old can play in the league and any standard of player or team can enter.

“Our community event weekly has been praised for providing an organised weekly sports event where people can meet/ play sport in a safe and friendly environment.”

While the 11-a-side season is currently closed, six-a-side leagues operate all year round.

Players or teams who wish to enter can call 07969 042 067 for more information.
