The remaining three walks started in Dolgellau, Phil Gregory led a classic walk of the area ‘The Torrent Walk’ using narrow country lanes the group made their way to the start of the Torrent walk on the Afon Clywedog, with spectacular scenes as it gushes through its striking gorge.

The area is designated as a site of Special Scientific Interest.

The rest of the 6.5 mile walk followed woodland and field paths back into Dolgellau.

Marj Halliday leading an 11 mile B walk and Val Hennessey leading a hard 9.5 mile C walk stayed on the south side of the town.

Marj led her group out of the town joining the riverside walk westward to join paths up the mountains to Tal-y-Waen, a marvellous viewing point for the estuary and the toll bridge at Barmouth and Cadair Idris.

Taking many tracks through the lush and wooded hills they passed the stunning lake Llyn Gwerwan, hundreds of dragon flies flitted about on the banks of the lake were a metallic turquoise with the water lilies adorning the lake a hiding place for the little ducklings.

Marj then took the lower paths below Cadair Idris for the return journey.

Val led her group up to Llyn Gwerwan and had a civilised picnic stop with tables at the National trust car park, quite a luxury.

Then they went upwards through woodlands and high to Tal-yWaen with its gorgeous views, joining a country lane back to base.

The group had a wonderful day’s walking in this lovely countryside, hard to match.

The walking group’s next excursion is to Grasmere on Sunday, July 21, followed by Matlock Bath on Sunday, August 4.
