Mayor joins the Rotarians

THE mayor of Halton Councillor Margaret Horabin has been made an honoury Rotarian by the Runcorn society.

President Tony Rudder gave a brief on the last year’s activities and demonstrat­ed how members had tried to live up to the theme of People Of Action.

President Ken Tonge then received his chain of office for 2019-20.

Rotarian Ken in his address encouraged the community of Runcorn to come forward and join Rotary or be Friends Of

Rotary so that more activities could take place. The theme is now Rotary Connecting The World.

A spokesman said: “Rotary unites more than 1.2 million people. Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communitie­s, and in ourselves.”

Anyone wishing for more informatio­n should visit the Runcorn Rotary web site or face book page be part of connecting the world with an organisati­on that gives 16 million volunteer hours each year. ●

Past President Tony Rudder presented a Paul Harris fellowship to Ros Gregory for her work in the community especially the environmen­t and mental health in recent years.

District governor elect Patrick Tyrell proposed the toast to Rotary.

President Ken concluded the evening displaying his new Rotary shirt alongside the Purple4Pol­io banner as he went to India to carry out immunisati­ons three years ago and recently did The End Polio Now 3k walk in Hamburg.
