Runcorn U14s win final in triumphant style

-

● shadows of Liverpool’s famous Anfield Stadium, the rain never stopped coming down, much to the annoyance of some of the parents especially after the weather we have had recently.

After last week’s dramatic 5-4 penalty-shoot semi-final victory over one of the leading Liverpool sides in MHS, Runcorn went into the Final as favourites against a Wavertree side who they played only a few weeks ago and beating them 7-2.

As can be imagined Runcorn went into this game full of confidence and it wasn’t long before they took the lead, a superb cross front the right from Logan Keogh which fell at the feet of Euan Lowrie-Fish who met the ball neatly on the volley to steer it past the keeper.

It wasn’t long before the second goal came and again it was Lowrie-Fish who was on hand after being sent through lobbing the onrushing keeper.

Wavertree got themselves back into the game six minutes later when they were awarded a free kick outside the box, the free kick was sent at goal with power and the thundering shot went over the top of Tommy Crane into the back of the net.

This goal spurred Runcorn back into life and three more goals from Lowrie-Fish sent Town in 5-1 up at the Half Time break.

The second half got underway with the rain continuing to fall and after a having a few chances, Runcorn then scored two goals within a minute both of which came from Liam Hall. A number of substitutions then ensued before the Wavertree goalkeeper was unlucky to put the ball into his own net after a corner from Louis Talbot.

The ninth and final goal for Runcorn in the game came with about ten minutes to go, again scored by Lowrie-Fish who completed his double hattrick with a neat finish, sliding it past the goalkeeper.

The ref finally blew his whistle to put the Wavertree team out of their misery and a rather muted celebration from the Runcorn Town boys. A fantastic effort by all of the lads and management and more silverwear added to an already superb year.

The lads will be at next week’s First Team game against Squires Gate at the Viridor Community Stadium to show off the trophies so please show them your support.
