Nurturing award for academy

-

A RUNCORN special school has been honoured with a National Nurturing Schools Award for its work helping its students to grow and thrive.

Cavendish High Academy was presented with the ‘natureuk’ gong by Halton MP Derek Twigg.

The award is given to schools that have completed a two-year programme so they can excel in nurturing students, and boosting teaching by supporting emotional needs.

Speaking ahead of the awards presentation, Elaine Haver, Cavendish principal said: “The whole of the Cavendish High Academy community is delighted to receive the National Nurturing Schools Award.

“The staff team regularly go above and beyond expectations and it is a fitting testament to their dedication, high aspirations and passion to provide the very best; in terms of education, environment and wellbeing for our young people.”

Mr Twigg said: “I am delighted to be presenting Cavendish High with this award.

“Achieving this award is testament to the work that the staff have put in to embed a nurturing ethos in their school.

“With one in 10 school children suffering from a mental health problem and worrying levels of stress and exhaustion among teaching staff, embedding a nurturing culture is a way to develop a happier, more resilient and more successful school community.”

Kevin Kibble, nurtureuk chief executive, said: “We are very happy to award Cavendish Academy High the National Nurturing Schools Award in recognition of the outstanding work and efforts of their whole staff team in embedding nurturing principles throughout the school.

“The people who gain from their hard work are the children attending the school, their families and the wider community in Halton. Our standards to achieve this award are high and many congratulations are due to the staff, pupils and everyone associated with the school.

“We’d like to thank Derek Twigg MP for his support for nurture approaches in Halton schools.

“It’s great that there’s support for the work teachers are doing in Parliament.”
