ORMISTON Chadwick Academy in Widnes has been ranked by the Government as the best school in Halton for GCSE results.

In national league tables released by the Department For Education, Ormiston Chadwick’s provisional Progress 8 score – which measures improvement from Year 7 to Year 11 across eight subjects, including key academic subjects – was 0.56.

This means that the school – on Liverpool Road and sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) – added more than half of a grade to every subject taken by each student than expected when they joined the school aged 11.

It makes Ormiston Chadwick the top-ranked school in Halton and in the top 7% of all schools in England.

Overall at the school, the number of top Grade 8 and 9s achieved by students increased by 20%.

The school’s science specialism was particularly strong, with all students achieving Grades 9-5 – defined by the Government as a ‘strong pass’ – in biology, chemistry and physics, with 50% of students achieving Grades 9-7.

Ormiston Chadwick Academy principal Jennifer LowryJohnson said: “We are delighted with today’s results, which follow a strong year of success for our school.

“These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of all our students and staff.

“We look forward to continuing to support students to fulfil their potential regardless of background or ability.”

OAT chief executive Nick Hudson added: “Congratulations to Ormiston Chadwick Academy for such excellent progress in this year’s GCSE results.

“Ormiston Academies Trust is committed to improving opportunities for all students, regardless of background.

“Ormiston Chadwick’s Progress 8 score demonstrates the strong journey it is on and we are delighted to see the school achieve highly again.”
