Timber site demolition
AN old timber merchants in Widnes could be bulldozed to make way for several industrial units.
Plans have been submitted to Halton Borough Council concerning the former Widnes Timber Centre on Foundry Lane.
The blueprints from JD Developments envisage demolishing the vacant facility and building eight commercial industrial units in its place.
There would also be an access road, car parking and landscaping.
A design and access statement from Randle White Architects submitted as part of the proposals said the site is approximately 2,589sq m and in a rectangular shape. It is close to a housing estate which was finished in 2008.
Eight units of two sto
● reys are envisaged at the site, with two designated parking spaces per unit.
New security gates will be fitted and each unit would have a main workspace, kitchen and a toilet, with an internal area of 100sq m, as well as a large roller shutter door and standard access door looking onto the site’s main yard.
The units would be no taller than the nearby homes.
The design and access statement’s conclusion said: “The application seeks planning approval for the erection of eight two storey commercial units.
“We believe the submitted plans demonstrate that it is possible to produce a high quality development, which is both well considered and viable.
“In addition, we believe the development can make a sustainable contribution to the existing area, enhancing the amenity of the existing neighbourhood properties.”
