ANEW Aldi supermarket will be opening soon in Widnes. The shop on Derby Road will open its doors for the first time at 8am on Thursday, November 14.

Olympic bronze medallist Beth Tweddle will be on hand to cut the ribbon on the day.

Standing at 1,315 sq m of retail space, the Derby Road shop is the second Aldi in the town and will be run by store manager Richard Tunney.

Exclusive offers will run throughout opening day and the first 30 customers through the door will receive a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range.

The new store will bring job opportunities to the area and offer more customers access to Aldi’s high quality, low-price products.

The retailer aims to have 1,200 stores by 2025 and is committed to further improving its existing stores across the country.

Aldi Derby Road, will offer large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, British meat products, a ‘Food To Go’ section at the front of the store, a fixture along the back wall showcasing beers, wines and spirits, and an exclusive section full health and beauty products.

Customers can expect to find Aldi’s exclusive Specially

Aldi’s Specialbuys will also be available every Thursday and Sunday, offering extraordinary value on a wide range of products, from electrical items to garden tools.

Mr Tunney said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the

● new store on Derby Road.

“It’s set to be a special day as we’ll be celebrating the opening of Aldi’s second store in Widnes and having Olympic hero, Beth Tweddle, join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Beth added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its endless support of Team GB.”

Additionally, the new Aldi store is calling on local charities and foodbanks in Widnes to register with Neighbourly, an engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in their area to receive regular donations of surplus food from the supermarket.

Charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com
