DALE Jennings has left Runcorn Town after suffering a cruel setback in his return from injury.

Town manager Paul McManus revealed in August that the 26-year-old winger had undergone surgery on a pre-existing knee injury during the summer.

“He’s had it for a while, even when he came back to us,” he explained at the time. “It’s a knee injury, his ACL, and he had keyhole surgery in the summer when the season finished.”

There was initial hope that Jennings would return in mid-September but the Runcorn Weekly News has since learned that fresh scans have revealed a doubletear on his knee.

The 26-year-old will now undergo further rehabilitation and has made the decision to split from Runcorn after making a surprise move to the NWCFL Premier Division outfit in September last year.

He committed his future to Town at the beginning of the summer despite interest from several other teams but is now set to focus on his recovery.

“I have opted to stay at Runcorn Town as the club has big ambitions themselves for the forthcoming season that I would like to help them realise,” Jennings said in July.

“With retaining most of the players from last season, and the quality additions that Macca has added, I think it is going to be a great season for us. I have had offers from other clubs but it would have to be the right move if I went elsewhere.

“It’s important to me that I enjoy my football which I do here at Runcorn with the lads we have in the squad.

“The supporters have welcomed me and my family to the club and showed me a lot of love and support.

“They would like to see the club promoted as well as the players, and with three promotion places this year, I would very much like to be a part of helping the club do that.”
