Police commission­er slams ‘mindless acts of vandlism’

CHESHIRE’S police and crime commission­er has condemned a spate of anti-social behaviour

(ASB) which has resulted in damage to properties and vehicles across Cheshire during the Hallowe’en period.

It came after Cheshire police responded to 80 incidents in Halton and Warrington alone on Wednesday, October 30.

They attended to a number of vehicles which were damaged including two police cars which were taken off the road for repair.

Additional patrols have been deployed to hot spot areas as part of an ongoing operation to keep people safe during this period.

They have dealt with further incidents overnight on Hallowe’en night (October 31) taking the total number of ASB incidents reported in Cheshire over the last 48 hours to more than 100.

PCC David Keane has appealed to the public to respect vulnerable members of the community and emergency service workers as Hallowe’en and bonfire celebratio­ns continued over the weekend.

He said: “These mindless acts of vandalism not only have a serious impact on our communitie­s but also on the efforts of emergency service workers trying to keep us safe.

“Our blue light responders work extra hours during this period to ensure people can enjoy Hallowe’en and bonfire night safely but their support is being hampered by thoughtles­s individual­s intent on causing damage and distress to our communitie­s. Please try and enjoy the celebratio­ns safely and stay out of trouble.”
