-

TALENTED second year students at Cronton Sixth Form are submitting their university applications after an inspirational summer attending prestigious programmes at Oxford and Cambridge.

Students on the Prestigious University Programme (PUP) at Cronton have spent time in their summer break participating in the Pembroke North Programme and the Cambridge Shadowing Scheme both designed to inspire students and provide them with a taste of life at some of the top universities in the country.

Sam Kaye, Georgia Worrall and Abby Maher all took part in the Pembroke North Programme at the University of Oxford.

This exciting programme allowed them to participate in a range of activities including weekly seminars, Easter School and a week long residential at the university campus.

Fellow A-level student Natalia Wcislo attended the Cambridge Shadowing Scheme and over a three day residential she accompanied a current Cambridge student to lectures, activities and events.

Sam Kaye, previously from Saints Peter And Paul Catholic College, said: “I applied for the programme after hearing about it in college.

“After the six weeks of seminars I attended the Easter school where my group won a prize for the best presentation. I then enjoyed a week in Oxford, experiencing the Oxford tutorial system.

“During this week I was awarded an ‘Exhibitioners Award’ for an essay I wrote and was I was proud to be invited to give a short speech about the programme and my experience at the opening of the Stewart Sutherland Philosophy Centre.

“The programme has encouraged me to apply to Oxford and I would like to study history and English and eventually pro

● gress into a career in journalism.”

Luke MacMahon, head of the Prestigious University Programme at Cronton, said: “The PUP programme at Cronton was created to inspire and support students with their applications to Russel Group universities and top qualifications including medical and law degrees. The programme provides students with the opportunity to go on trips, gain additional awards and qualifications and to attend workshops by academic and industry specialists.

“This is all designed to provide students with skills and experiences to apply to some of the top universities in the country. Congratulations to all of the students who took part in the PUP programmes last summer, we are looking forward to following your university journey over this year.”
