RUNCORN Town had to settle for a point in their first ever meeting with Avro, with the home side equalising in the first minute of stoppage time.

Player Manager Paul McManus shuffled the starting line up; bringing himself and Owen Dursley into the starting eleven and replacing Kai Wallis and Ste Wainwright who dropped to the bench.

The game kicked off with Runcorn Town attacking from left to right and within the first minute Craig Cairns had the ball in the net, but alas the assistant referee’s arm sprang into action as Cairns strayed offside.

In the opening 15 minutes of the game Runcorn Town have started strongly, but were frustrated as we strayed offside for a few occasions.

Avro had the first shot on target, which came during the 16th minute, Louis Potts shoots down the middle of the goal, which went straight to Adam Reid who parried the ball away and it was then cleared.

Avro came back on the attack and were awarded a corner, which was taken from the right, this was partially cleared, Avro recovered the ball and the Runcorn Town defenders cleared it for a corner, which was once again taken from the right and delivered into the area, but Adam Reid punched it away and the town defenders made the clearance.

Runcorn Town were awarded a corner after 20 minutes of the game had elapsed, this was taken from the left by Joe Holt, but Avro cleared.

There was a chance to take the lead a minute later, Cairns cut inside from the right and had a shot just outside the 18-yard box, this was deflected for a corner from the right, which was

George Webster joined them earlier in the season.

Holsgrove has joined from Marine – who have high hopes for him, but he has joined in search of more game time. The 19-year old was at West Brom in their Under 18s team, before moving to Watford last season where he played in their

Under 23s team.

Burke is no stranger to Runcorn Town fans having been with the team in a similar capacity last season from Widnes. He also spent several seasons at Runcorn Linnets, and has also played for Ashton Athletic, Skelmersda­le United and Barnton in the NWCFL.

Meanwhile some players will be leaving Runcorn.

Midfielder­s Matthew France and Richard McQuade have left the club in search of regular football. Both of these players have signed for NWCFL First Division South side Barnton.

Goalkeeper Marcus Burgess has left the club to join

NWCFL First Division South side Cheadle Town. Marcus helped Town out in September when Adam Reid was suspended.

At the other end Avro went on the counter attack, Daniel Grimshaw shot towards the right of the goal, but the shot was met by Adam Reid diving at full stretch.

After 25 minutes, Kyle Jacobs had a shot and Adam Reid, diving to the left side of the goal made the save.

Runcorn Town had a great chance to take the lead after 32 minutes as the referee Mr Walsh awarded a penalty for Town for a foul on Dave Forbes. Forbes had taken the penalty, which beat Jordan Latham and struck the right post.
