Sees Town go through in cup
saved by Reid, conceding a corner to Northwich from the right.
This did not amount to anything and as Runcorn Town were awarded a free kick for a foul in the penalty area.
The first chance of the half for Runcorn Town came in the 57th minute. Craig Cairns latched on to Shaun Weaver’s pass, which went over Northwich’s defensive line, but the shot went well wide past the right post.
There was another chance for Runcorn Town, the ball cleared upfield towards Cairns. The ball landed on a bit of a bobble on the pitch which beat the Northwich defenders and Cairns was the first to react to the loose ball and advanced towards the goal. Cairns then had a shot, which was poorly executed going wide past the left post.
At the other end of the pitch, Northwich had a corner from the left which was swung into the penalty area, but Adam Reid came off his line to claim the ball.
Northwich had a shot cleared off the line in the 68th minute – Saul Henderson headed the ball, Reid blocked the shot and the ball rolled across towards the left of the goal before being hoofed clear by the Runcorn Town defenders.
The lead was doubled after 75 minutes, Exell with a slight dinky pass that went over the heads of the Northwich defenders towards Craig Cairns, who lobbed the ball over the oncoming Scott Reed and into the empty net.
As the match went into stoppage time, Northwich had a corner from the left which was swung into the penalty area, Stephen Wainwright cleared the ball and for a Northwich throw in, there was a shot from the outside of the area and that shot went wide past the right post.
The game was then brought to a close by Mr Gavillucci and Runcorn Town go through to the third round of the Macron Cup.
